INTRODUCTION













The College is named St. Peter, the Apostle of peace and harmony. The College draws its inspiration from the s St. Peter & St. Paul Orthodox Syrian, Kolenchery Church. At the meeting held on 9 February 1964 in this church, the idea to apply for a Junior College in Kolenchery was discussed. A Committee composed of Sri. P.o. box Issac (President), Sri. H Paily Pillai (Secretary) and Sri. C. V. Jacob (Treasurer) was allowed to go ahead with the dream project. Sanction for a college Junior, that letter No. g. C2/2879/63 of the 07/01/1964. The leadership sincere and dedicated, given in the past by people like Sri. Mr. Chacko Pillai, Sri. K.V. Thomas, Sri. Varghese national park, Sri. H Paily Pillai, Sri. P.o. box Issac, Sri. K.E. Issac, Sri. K.P. Paulose, Sri. E.M. Varkey, Dr. C.T. George etc. had college of St. Peter, a renowned educational institution.
The College is located approximately 30 kilometres east of Cochin, Kolenchery was once a village away with delay school inhabitants. The departure of the College, has been a boon to the rustic inhabitants of the town. Generate thousands of graduates and postgraduate students, building the school delay people, the College has been the cause to inaugurate a new look for Kolenchery with many commercial establishments, banks, government offices and even a Medical College and is a beautiful Township. Supporters of the College believe that the phenomenal growth of this institution is due to the invisible blessing of the Holy patterns, Saint Pierre and Saint Paul. Since its inception in 1964, the College management and staff, through their consistent and tireless, efforts have produced a host of other professionals and citizens excellés as administrators, executives, members of the clergy, businessmen, doctors, engineers, lawyers. The College is now affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University and is accredited by national assessment and accreditation of the U.G.C. Board four star level
The college began in July 1964 with five batches of Pre-Degree students. It earned a good reputation in a short span of time and her fame spread throughout Kerala, and produced international sports persons and academics, all in quick succession that the college was upgraded as a degree College in 1967. It has the rare privilege of undergraduate courses starting in eight topics in that year itself. The college was a post graduate institution in 1982 with the beginning of course m.SC. in Botany. It now offers courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, Botany, zoology, economics, history, politics, Malayalam, English, Hindi and Commerce, Post Graduate Training conducted in the college are Botany, mathematics, Commerce, English, Bio-technology, Malayalam and the public service for tourism. The college currently has the strength of a student of 1560. There are 103 members on the teaching staff and 48 members on the non-teaching staff.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY.

The Mahatma Gandhi University (formerly Gandhiji University), with B+ accreditation of National Assessment and Accreditation Council, was established on 2nd October 1983, as the fifth University in the southern most State of Kerala, India.
Hiving off the territorial jurisdiction of the mother institution – University of Kerala, as per the Mahatma Gandhi University Act, 12 of 1985, enacted by the Kerala Legislature, the University caters to the development of higher education of Central Kerala. Higher learning in the Revenue Districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki, Kozhencherry, Mallappally, Thiruvalla and Ranni Taluks of the Pathanamthitta District and Kuttanad Taluk of the Alapuzha District comes under the aegis of Mahatma Gandhi University.

Apart from this, the University has 8 Satellite Campuses at Pullarikunnu, Soorya Kalady Hills, Nattasserry, Puthuppally, Gandhinagar and Cheruvandoor in Kottayam, Thodupuzha and Nedumkandam in Idukki District, and Chuttippara in Pathanamthitta District.
