INTRODUCTION






Alphonsa College is a religious minority institution owned and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Pala. The institution is at present run under the efficient stewardship of the Patron, His Excellency Mar Joseph Kallarangattu, Bishop of Pala; The management of the College is vested in a Managing Board consisting of the Patron, His Excellency Mar Joseph Kallarangattu; Very Rev. Fr. O.P.Enas Ottathengumkal, Manager; Very Rev. Fr. George Choorakattu, Vicar General; Very Rev. Fr. Philip Njaralakkattu, Vicar General; Prof. Mrs. Mariakutty George, Rev. Dr. Mathew Maleparampil, Prof. A.V.Antony, and the Principal, Dr. Sr. Celine Mathew. In this age of commercialisation of education it is noteworthy that the management of Alphonsa College has never accepted any form of donation either for appointment of the staff or for admission to various courses.



Aims and Objectives

The fundamental aim of the Alphonsa College is to impart spiritually-oriented and value-based education to young women under circumstances congenial to their all-round development. It encourages the students to aim at excellence not only in academic pursuits, but also in every aspect of human endeavour to achieve perfection.

The students are prompted to strive for academic excellence so that in course of time they may take up suitable careers for betterment of their lives and also for their families and society at large. The various co-curricular activities of the College, especially the extension programmes provide them with a rare social consciousness that motivate them to reach out to their fellow-men, particularly the needy and the marginalised.



The College Library Started functioning from the inception of the College in 1964. The present library building was inaugurated in 1976 by late. Mar. Sebastian Vayalil, the founder of the College. The library-[censored]-reading room is quite spacious. There are about 35700 volumes, 73 journals and periodicals as well as five newspapers in the library. The students are encouraged to spend their leisure time quite fruitfully in the library. Audio-visual facility is also provided.
