INTRODUCTION










Maharajas College Ernakulam Established in 1875 by the then Maharaja of Kochi.this college was, all through those years a throbbing witness and an active participant in the socio-cultural and historical evolutions of the entire state of Kerala.The 10 acre campus and the 15 acre ground and stadium, the greenery and the giant trees, the freshwater ponds and the presence of a host of birds- all contribute to provide a soothing natural habitat. The imposingly long,spacious,meandering Base building, constructed in tune with the traditional architectural style is reported to have been modeled on the heritage structures of the University of Cambridge. These, with a few additional concrete buildings , cover a total area of 19,525 sq.m and provide infrastructure facilities for the 19 disciplines of human resource development.
The College is one of the five Centers of Excellence in the state. It is a special grade college affiliated in Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and placed under Section 2(f) by the University Grants Commission (UGC) It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council in 1999 at the level of three Stars. The college was selected for the R. Sank'ar Award for the best Arts and Science College in 1996-97.



The college functions as a human resource development centre . In addition it offers two self-financing vocational courses, a vocational BCom and three add-on courses. There are 9 research centers recognized by the MG University and involved in research in the frontier areas with national and international collaborations.

College History
This multidisciplinary hub of greater studying had its respectful origins as a single room British institution began by Elegant Empire of Cochin in 1845 "to provide such instructions to the learners as would allow them to discuss with Englishmen without the aid of an interpreter". The institution was improved to an excellent in 1875 and in May 1925 the college obtained its existing name. The college offered instructions in Arithmetic, Technology, Biochemistry, Zoology, Record and Economics; it was associated with Madras School. At that time there were two hostels and sports and actual eduction, fictional and science organizations performing arrived. Sir C V Raman and Dr S Radhakrishnan were among the speakers at the Fantastic Jubilee parties in 1925.
The first PG course was began in 1947 in the Office of Biochemistry, which already had research features positioning to M.Sc and Ph.D. Following the incorporation of Cochin and Travancore declares, the college was moved from Madras to Travancore School in 1949. The college student body matured from 500 in 1925 to 2,802 in 1998; the coaching staff saw a similar improve from 21 to 195.
